Anyone,

I've looked through older posts referencing Nichia and haven't found any discussion regarding a recent article in Popular Science (Feb 2000). The article states that Nichia was the first to produce a continuous blue LED laser and that the company was 3 years ahead of anyone else in the field.

How does this jibe with CREE's ability to produce a blue LED laser?

>>Gerhard Fasol, a materials scientist and consultant in Tokyo, says Nichia is three years ahead of its competitors. Fasol notes that other recent high-tech advances were duplicated at competing labs within months if not weeks. "I don't know of any high-technology development where the competition was so far behind," he says.<<
