No, to access sat-mode service, you need a sat-phone, there's no question about that...and in the case of G* that means CDMA, rake antennas and other bells & whistles. The interchangeability of the SIM cards lets a user select the phone that's most convenient while keeping the same phone number, and personal info (personal phone books for example, are resident on the SIM card) by physically moving the SIM from handset to handset, but no SIM card will convert a terrestrial only cell phone to a sat-capable phone.
