The Athlon infrastructure (mobo, power supply..) is still more expensive than equivalent parts for Intel systems and so AMD has to discount the CPU to some extent, not counting that there is still some degree of "Intel inside" factor. And as the price of these cheaper chips gets lower so the percentage differential will increase.

Lucky for us AMD is keeping ahead in the higher MHz binsplit race. The 800 and higher is where the cream is coming from.
