I'll do some research, Z. Let you know what I find.

Let's hope the, now, open competition between the U.S. and Spain for controlling interest in the LatAm markets doesn't take-on an adversarial tone that's so heavy it prevents the trade synergies to which you've alluded.

No doubt, dollarization could enhance liquidity and increase market participation. But it could also stir some trouble, if only for the strong fiscal resolve required of a nation and economy that relinquishes its access to monetary tools. Also, though it may seem so at times, the U.S. central bank isn't in the practice of handing-out Federal Reserve Notes only for the asking. Some sort of collateral will be required. Just what that collateral might be, I'm not certain. However, I do believe they should avoid being too inventive in that aspect. The folks down there will get a little upset when they see us carting-off pieces of their sovereign wealth.

I'm not certain what sort of role Spain imagines for itself in Latin America, Z. You may be sooner to achieve that prospective than I.

Have a fine weekend.

Tom

p.s. Thank you for the note on EMC. I'll investigate it now.
