Margaret, I would take that Gilder report with a grain of salt. There hasn't been this much hype on an IPO since the PALM fiasco. The problem with optics via the air is interference, whether that be environmental, physical, etc. . for instance, how does a lightning storm effect data transmission via optics through the air?

Glass has no such interference and provides "SUFFICIENT" speed in an all-optical network. . . not to mention that fibre optics has already been selected as the next generation carrier of voice/video/music and data for the entire planet!

What I mean by sufficient, is that when you have reliable two way broadband high quality video communications, with simultaneous data transfer. . . you have about 95% of what you will ever need. . . beyond that, you are into overkill.

It is like coming up with a new technology that makes an automobile travel at cruising speeds of 200 - 300 mph. . . .would you necessarily want that in your minivan? One of the basic requirements of technology is that it fills a need. I don't see how Terabeam's air optics fills a need.

I sense one of the periodic IPO hoax plays. And as for A.T. & T. involvement. . .I'd like to see a report directly by A.T.& T. detailing their involvement. For that matter, why are their partners or customers kept a secret? You would think a company about to do an initial public offering would feel a need to namedrop a bit. . . to gain some credibility.

That's it. . . I'm done.
