McData as a public company

Nathan

EMC will take McData public within the year for all the arguments you presented. Many potential users of McData products will buy elsewhere rather than support EMC unless as you suggested there are no competitive alternatives. Captive divisions always find it hard to be long term leading edge vendors when they are beholden to a parent no matter how good that parent is. IBM comes to mind. I think the management at EMC is much too astute to not set McData free. The only reason they would not set them free is that McData's technology might hurt EMC's revenue stream in the hands of a competitor which is not likely since we know that EMC's strength is in their software and service and not just in hardware.
