To the_rich_janitor: The beauty of your point is that it not only shows that licensing NOK for the 1XRTT ASIC would be a win/win for the Q, but it would be a "face" saver for Nokia.

The more I observe the actions of the Scandinavians the more convinced I am that "face" is more of a far northern European concern than an Asian one. And the willingness to cut off your own nose to spite your face is even more evident. Curious, no?

However, perhaps the Q is proposing a way to save that "face" of Nokia.

The idea of licensing would also fit the garbled reports about Nokia obtaining a "license" where Nokia was the 3rd company to obtain an original CDMA license from the Q.

But permitting Nokia to make its own 1XRTT chips would require a new and different license, no?

All this is fascinating to try to figure out.

But it is pretty clear that Nokia has to work out something/somehow with the Q re 1XRTT or be left in the dust , since the doubling of voice capacity with faster data thrown in as a bonus is as Dr J has said "a no brainer".

And behind and above most faces is a brain - at least one capable of understanding the advantages of selling CDMA phones vs not selling them over the next months and years.

All just speculation, of course.

Best.
