<<<Who wudda thunk it?

Up until 5:05 PM last night, EVERY MEDIA article in the press and EVERY POST on SI assumed that the AthWiper was a Done Deal design win for the X-BOX - and this covered what - several months of speculation ?

Then, literally at the last minute, Joe Montana throws a touchdown pass - and the Good Guys win !>

It is a victory allright but a pretty ugly one.

Intel shouldn't have been behind on this one - supplying at the low-end with a built-in die size advantage should have been an easy win for Intel. Instead they fell behind and had to scramble at the end. This last minute thing will probably cost quite a bit in margins.

The biggest benefit from this deal for Intel might be early exposure into a high power gaming platform and the loss of momentum at AMD.

The biggest downside for Intel may be that AMD folks might develop a healthy bit of paranoia and become more battle hardened.

Competition is good.
