That post was a "12" engineer. Nokia must be 'twisting slowly. . . .' on what could easily be a corporate make or break decision. NOK obviously does not want to be reduced to merely "wrapping plastic" around electronics designed and manufactured by others. How could they retain their top technical teams if they were seen to be throwing in the towel by buying from the Q? OTOH, if they DON'T launch a purchase order San Diego's way, how do they respond to their customers' demands for CDMA and wireless data products?
Simple, announce that you're gonna buddy-up with BatWing and expect the market to conclude that SIZE MATTERS and that alone will make everything all right down the road. Well, if phones ran on PR, I suspect that would be a neat idea, but then ornery guys like you keep bringing up the RF which is apparently almost as important as FUD in getting the damn things to function, if you follow my acronymic drift.
If Surfer Mike can figure out that NOK's blowing hot air cause they ain't holding any hole cards, I'd like to think that the telecom carriers would reach the same conclusion. Your suggested evolutionary path is clearly the most rational for NOK to follow both near and longer term--but can they swallow their corporate pride and culture to walk it? With the Ericsson swan dive staring them in the face, you'd presume that they would like to avoid leaping off the same cliff. OTOH, presumptions of reasoned corporate decision making are a bit dicey.
Someone said we got us a pennant race, and I say "about time!". The battle for wireless data supremacy is at hand and we got us the Scandanavians (again), and Rotomola (again), up against Dr. J (again). Anybody been to this movie?
I would be most appreciative if all MOT/NOK sports fans would place their bets in large quantities. All I ask in return is the opportunity to pick up some Q at around 100, which seems only fair given the inevitable victory of the goliaths.
Damn, is this gonna be a kick in the pants. (Among other things, Ramsey's Rules are automatically suspended as soon as a jihad is announced--and I'm very, very close.}
