Former basketball superstar Michael Jordan is expected to announce this week that he will join the
board of Divine interVentures, a Chicago-based Internet incubator that recently filed to go public,
according to people familiar with the company.

Divine interVentures was launched last summer by Andrew J. "Flip" Filipowski, founder and former
head of Platinum Technology, a software firm built through acquisition that was sold to Computer
Associates in July for $3.6 billion.

Jordan is expected to join Divine's board in exchange for a pre-IPO equity stake in the
venture-capital holding company and perhaps stakes in some of Divine's individual Internet
companies.

Calls to Jordan's office at the Washington Wizards, where he is part owner and president of
basketball operations, weren't returned. A spokesperson for Divine interVentures wouldn't
comment; the company is in a quiet period after filing documents with the Securities and Exchange
Commission that may pave the way for a spring IPO.

Last month, CMGI, a publicly held Internet holding company, bought a 4.9% stake in Divine.
There is already some speculation within Divine that CMGI may acquire a larger share -- even a
majority stake -- after the company completes its offering. Dell Computer also owns 8% of Divine.
