Chaz, a couple of years ago, I believe I saw announcements to the effect that Vodafone had a dual mode phone capable of handling both GSM and CDMA. At the time, it was thought that the dual phone would allow Vodafone to integrate both technologies in its service area. I'm not sure whether the Globalstar handset that continues to be manufactured by QCOM handles GSM.
