How about government workers who treat their jobs as if they were entitlements? My son has started his own business(anyone needing a very reasonably priced, and professionally done web site-call Tornado Technologies!) and needed some permits-which he was stunned to find cost quite a bit of money-at least for a 16 year old. He skipped swim practice, drove into Fort Worth, waited in a long line for 45 min., and when he was about third in line, the person said, "It's 4:00( or whatever it was--an incredibly early hour, I thought!) We're closed." That was it! CW had to come home without it and go back again. If a private company ever conducted business in that way, they wouldn't last a month. It's disgusting and frightening to see the incompetence and lack of caring in public employees-and know that no matter how bad it gets, they can't be fired. How does all this fit in, Terry and Alexa? I wish I still had your optimism, Alexa, but I think we have problems that go beyond forcing people to work. We need to enforce some level of competency, also. The government can come up with jobs but apparently, it doesn't matter how they're performed. |
