Philips execs say that once people experience DVD and catch the wave, they'll rush out to buy the Philips/Magnavox DVD 400AT player ($549) directly from their video stores -- or they can pick it up at a local hardware emporium. The player (without a built-in Dolby Digital decoder) is due in May in limited areas but will be everywhere within a few months. It looks surprisingly like the Toshiba SD-2006. New Philips-made models are due later in the year. The 400AT comes bundled with a compilation music disc featuring A&M acts such as Sting, Sheryl Crow, Soundgarden and others.
