"Senior" Management......
>>And I do so, unlike my fellow poster Mr. Smart, in general support of the current senior management at Novell.>>
Paul:
Novell's "Senior" Management??
Just talking about the value of management in this Net Age is very problematic. Novell is not able to attract and keep bright, creative young people. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with "Senior" Management, but has everything to do with Novell's "mindset."
For the past year, a select group inside Novell's senior management have burrowed into a hunker down, defensive, myopic, kill or be killed mode. They don't get it.
I'm not saying this to offend Eric Schmidt, Bill Joy, Drew Major or all the other bright lights who dwell inside this tightfisted pyramid. But the dysfunction has to be rooted out. And the only way to do this is to turn the light on and call a spade a spade, period.
People have problems doing this in the world. Why? Because they mistakingly are riveted to this fearful, kill or be killed paradigm. When I make these judgements I do so from a very positive, forgiving perspective. This doesn't mean I'm sitting on the fence, however. For it's not up to me to place the stake in the ground inside Novell. Someone else must have the guts to do this.
Whoever it is and however it's done, I can guarantee there will be overwhealming support for such an endeavor. For this person will emerge as the true leader to move Novell in new directions which will really take the cover off the ball.
I believe in this direction so much that I can see myself taking over Novell. But not in the way people traditionally think of the term. For I'd place myself at the bottom of an inverted pyramid - the pryramid we can successfully turn upside down. And I'd just work like heck to infuse all the fire, energy, evangelism and enthusiasm to turn this company into the Internet Rocket I know it is fully capable of becoming.
How?
By doing ONE thing very well: TRUSTING.
Novell could be the first democratic company in world history, run by it's shareholders for the benefit of communities worldwide.
I can fully "see" the extreme power and energy of this model. And I have the faith and belief it can be pulled off. Anyone care to challenge me??
Peace.
