Anyone have an opinion on OXY purchase of Altura, other than the obvious info in every press release? I am thinking of increasing my position, but would like more info from folks with knowledge of what is happening.

IMO one thing has changed this week. OXY is no longer an easy takeover target. The cost of takeover just went up significantly.

"The reason is that Altura is not a core asset for BP Amoco or Royal Dutch, it was more of a legacy position that both were grappling with how they should run it going forward and disposal for each of them was clearly the best option.

``But by definition it is a core asset for Occidental, just because of the size. Occidental has substantial experience in the Permian and is a lower cost operator. The company should be able to bring low cost status to these new assets,' he added.
