AMD did the right thing...They offered a price which would make it worth while for them and didn't get suckered into a lower price...AMD is much better focussingon maitaining ownership of the top-end of the market...The 13 million Athys they ship this year will derive much higher margins at the top-end then by spinning their wheels producing 600 MHz Athys in abundance and selling them at cost...AMD has shown its spunk on this one and I'm beginning to get used to and liking AMD's spunk...The Athy is the goods and because the Athy is the goods, AMD will ship all (i.e 13 million) that it can produce in Y2000 at very reasonable margins and without much in the way of competition from Intel who may have just locked themselves into a low margin high resource allocation deal...
