Tony - re: is kind of refuted up front, in the article, several times by IBM, and IDC words
I would say that the refutation is by IBM and that IDC has no opinion on the matter.

No question that the S80 is aimed upstream, and in capability spans the range where the UE6500 and UE10000 play.

If IBM is serious about making a strong play against UE10000, they would develop the related pieces to make this product attractive in the markets where the big SUNW products play. To do that they would need to compromise some of their more proprietary components, which they don't want to do since those protect their AS400 and S390 markets which are way bigger money than any of this Unix stuff. So far, they have not been willing to do more than go after "targets of opportunity" which they can hit without cutting into their bread and butter.
