AMEX Blue Smartcard Reader w/ Online Wallet Available.....
home4.americanexpress.com

[ I recall a lot was made of AMEX Blue a while back. I wonder if this might trigger more DD by others which might allow more 'dot connection'. Or is AMEX is trying to prempt the Wave enabled Compaq readers. TIA ]

Blue has a Smart Chip embedded into the card which holds a certificate of authenticity. When you order an Industry standard Smart Card Reader from American Express, you will receive a Personal Identification Number (PIN). Your certificate, in combination with your PIN, ensures a higher level of security for online shopping.

The additional level of security comes from using the Smart Chip in combination with your Smart Card Reader and PIN code. This two-factor security is greater than traditional online security because it combines some things you have (the Reader and Smart Chip) with something you know (the PIN code). In some ways it is similar to an ATM transaction in which you use your ATM card and your PIN for accessing your bank account.

When Blue is inserted, the Smart Card Reader reads the Smart Chip. It connects to your PC serial port and requires a PC running Windows 95, 98, or NT. The reader has a $25 value and is provided to you FREE if you order it before March 31, 2000!

First, you insert Blue into the Smart Card Reader. Next, you enter your PIN which opens your American Express Online WalletSM.

The American Express Online WalletSM offers a more convenient Internet shopping experience by filling in online forms automatically. It can also store your purchases and site-specific IDs and passwords.

Initially, the Smart Chip will help you securely access your American Express Online WalletSM. In the future, your Smart Chip can be upgraded to include more functionality online and offline.
