Rudedog, IBM not in the hardware business would be difficult for a lot of people, including me, to handle. Something about the history of this computing business, which is the only one this world has ever had. Maybe like the Yankees giving up baseball, or Notre Dame giving up football. Anyway, S390 first stopped growing in terms of yearly $$ shipped a few years ago. However, it was still growing in MIPs shipped. Now, I'm not even sure about the MIPS not slipping. If IBM sees that, they'll throw emphasis on something else, I would imagine. I'm sure you saw this on the Intel thread, from the Q499 IBM earnings report:
"However, within IBM's server family, Netfinity PC revenues increased significantly, as did revenues from RS/6000 mid-range servers, including the advanced RS/6000 Model S80."
