Getting rid of cookies --- It's tougher than it looks...

Cookies get stored in more than one place. Nice stuff! And besides this, they're persistent little buggers too. It seems that once they're gone, Windows looks around for copies and restores them to their annoying good health.

Here's what to do:

Restart your system in MS-DOS (Safe) mode. This'll put gravel into Windows' gears so you'll be allowed to do the dirty deed. Erase the contents of C:\Windows\Cookies folder. Make sure you really fumigate the place well and catch the hidden files too. ("Dir /AH", (Attribute Hidden) will find them.) "ATTRIB -R -A -S -H *.*" will clear ALL attributes, ReadOnly, Archive, System, Hidden, and let let you finish the job. (Substitute '+' signs to set them.)

Continue by erasing the contents of C:\Windows\Temporary Internet files folder too. In MS-DOS mode, you'll probably need to use C:\Windows\Tempor~1 to find them because long filename support is not available.

You've gone this far, may as well sweep out C:\Windows\Temp folder too -- and C:\Windows\Temporar (if it exists) on your system.

Just to be sure, erase C:\WIN386.SWP too.

When you restart your system, a new WIN386.SWP, Cookies folder, and Temporary folders, along with the needed index files will be created. This stuff will be empty and not a source of cookie pollution.

Hope this helps, PW.

P.S. This work can be made a little easier using DELTREE command, but be careful, since it'll really clean-up.
