Right you are, Hal, but also remember that if Maxtor doesn't use KM with TFI this year (the minimum purchase requirement clause), Ampex can cancel the deal in early 1998.
That exclusivity chip is really just an idle thought on my part. It may not be necessary. After all, Ampex is now offering an advanced KM+TFI road map AND a promising KM+MR road map to at least the top 5 drive makers now. A better deal, it seems to me. Time will tell if it is good enough.
Bull Hal's (is that you, Hal? an alter ego, perhaps?) rumor on AOL contained a kernel of truth after all, don't you agree? Recall if you will that last year, Ampex disclosed that IBM - which has been a pure MR shop since 1994, has operations absorbing all its MR head and platter production - submitted sample keepered platters to Ampex. A fair reading of the 10Q suggests that IBM is one of the two integrated disk drive manufacturers to which Ampex has submitted sample keepered disks calibrated specifically for SAL MR heads.
Lastly, kind words always go well with a strong cup of coffee, but it is really unncessary because we are all rowing the same boat, trying to make money, which is not to say that those words are not appreciated. Thanks Sean, Dragonfly, Mike. |
