Re smart cards: In Richard Rahn's"The End of Money and The Struggle For Financial Privacy" , the author makes a case for their use. His political viewpoints are a bit libertarian, I wonder whether Freeus has read this. An excellent book,it was featured on Gilder's list. I believe Sandisk has already been discussed here but I think I was still trying to understand SiC wafers, neuron chips, Gemstar in every TV, embedded processors and it blew right past me.
