In my earlier post discussing what finance sites and programs don't do, I also don't believe many (if not any) handle the timing of adding funds to or withdrawing funds from one's portfolio. A spreadsheet's XIRR formula does all of that and gives the annualized internal rate of return, which for me is the only basis of comparison that applies to virtually all situations. The ROI applies only to comparatively limited situations.

Just just the thinking of a future ex-carpetologist. :)
