globalstar :

There are whole regions of the world where a phone is still a luxury, or the wait to get a wired phone can be years..... Globalstar has great sound quality and technology, the problem is handset and per minute costs. ....

yep, I know of one of the countries : India. (I lived there for 25 years. took my dad 8 years to get a phone at home). This goes back a few years, it may have changed now. The problem with a country like India is, if its not cheap, people aint buying - they already have a hard time making ends meet. I was visiting India 2 years ago. at every street corner in the cities, pay phones capable of making international calls were available. would u pay for a sat phone, or walk a block to use a pay phone ?

Cant comment on US rural - haven't lived here long enough...

IMHO, sat phone companies (if they're targetting the less developed parts of the world), need to find a way to reduce cost to the subscriber. else, there just aint enough buyers.
