Voltino, et al.

Le'me just say, I have been lurquin'round this porch for just a little while now and have learned more than I can say from all you porch compadri. I am hugely impressed with the good humor, intelligence and sensitivity that you all share with each other. What a bella familia, by any standard! Voltaire, you are a most gracious host; you and yours are the reason that have I joined SI and I am so happy that I have!

Now, a question re: covered calls, if I may. I recently wrote a few Qcom Jan 2001 covered calls to raise some cash to avoid a margin call. Hopefully, this was not a dumb move, but my question now is this: by writing cc leaps, did I 'tie up' the underlying shares until expir Jan 2001? If not, how and when do I/ can I make a move out of this position?

To my own dismay, due to stupidly inordinate time demands on me by 2 businesses that I own and operate, I have been able to read only bits and pieces of the covered call discussion that has been underway for the last couple of weeks, so I apologize in advance for not yet knowing what is probably already common knowledge by now.

Thanks a million, one and all!
