hi Mark.

glad you came over.

luck has certainly played a major role.

smart ?
perhaps, from time to time, but never often enough to take full credit.<g>

my game has been a very disciplined approach to call options.
short and medium term calls on companies that hold the leadership positions in a given sector, at a given time.

i try to buy around news, events, and of course, earnings reports. mostly in the money, or at the money.
and occasionally out of the money. but always in quantity.
(a $1000 gain (or loss) can be expected from a 1 point move in an option, for every ten purchased. $2000 for a 1 point move on 20 purchased, $3000 for a 1 point move on 30, etc.)

i try never to overstay my welcome.
it can be more important to know when to get out, than when to get in.

probably fair to say the light came on for me about how much things were changing, and where it all could go, in May of 1997. i discovered Dell.
then in '98 i added Yahoo, Amazon, and AOL.
holding just enough shares to say i owned each company, but concentrating the greater effort on call options around these few.

in the spring of '99, Qualcomm.
it's had the biggest influence on the bottom line since i started in '96.

i've never played short.
goes against my grain to bet on misfortune.

tools are very important too.
the one i have, that i really couldn't do without, even as temperamental as it can be somtime, is Q-charts.

qcharts.com

realtime streaming quotes and charts, with all the bells and whistles.
they have a thread here on SI.

Subject 21544

beyond the obvious, i'd have to admit though to being completely obsessed.<g>
