Paul Engel speculates that the 6.4 GBps rate might be due to adding additional Rambus channels but 6.4GBps is the rate for RDRAM that Tate said they'd announce this coming Summer (based on doubling the clock speed and doubling the width of a channel, if I remember correctly). So maybe Microsoft didn't say anything specifically about the memory because the technology they're using hasn't been announced officially yet. This would put the Sony PS II a generation behind in memory technology with just 3.2GBps (two current RDRAM channels).
