Richard... if you wouldn't take my comment about subsidization out of context, it should be clear that I am trying to state that any form of major infrastructural progress has usually come out of public spending.

Whether it be railroads, power generation/distribution, communications, maritime trade... etc, all of it heavily relied upon govt subsidies and favors.

Any movement towards energy independence will also require initial subsidization. Maybe all of those gas taxes we pay on each gallon of fuel should go into alternative energy programs.

Btw, I'm a big fan of nuclear energy. It has received a very bad rap.
