Thank you all for posting your experiences with DSL and cable modem service. I don't think I will be switching to DSL until couple years from now until the service gets better.

Before I moved to Manhattan, I lived at my gf's house on Long Island. We've had the Cablevision cable modem service for over a year and a half. There have been no problems with the cable modem so far. We use a 3COM modem which rocks. As far as transfer speeds, we can get 200+ kb/sec transfers. On peak hours, we get at least 50kb/sec.

Other than that, I'm not sure how congested the RoadRunner cable modem service is in Manhattan. Anyone know what relative transfer speeds one gets?
