ZANY, disk drives: Zany Brainy (NASDAQ: ZANY - Quotes, News, Boards), the retailer of educational toys and books for children reported sales growth of 36% during the fourth quarter. Earnings came in at $0.55 per share compared with $0.39 per share in the same period last year. The Street expected the company to earn $0.54 per share. In after-hours trading the stock is up $0.63 per share to $7.13. disk drives, SEG, WDC, RDRT all exploded today amidst the tech wreck. SEG being touted since its stock investments are worth twice the market cap of SEG, hmmm, WDC got an upgrade and RDRT went along for the ride. beginning of a turn in this sector, well, at least today. though SEG is a special case. My gut is that today pummeling was led by the overseas mass selling, and the large rebound and ++ 5,000 euphoria being replaced by reality, greed, and fear - all in one shot. The bios are doing a severe pullback, probably have some more to go, but if their move is a real one, then this is a healthy correction in an explosive move. if not a real move, then carnage lay ahead. been just holding and doing a few flips: muei and ebay. watching EDS - seems cheap at 58-60, and noticed that the airlines, yes susie, the airlines, actually had a bounce today. maybe just maybe. the banks were generally strong today too. maybe just maybe. larry |
