"(1) overall PC market to grow 19% this year, then 8%
(2) AMD "solely" focussed on desktop
(3) desktop growing slowly in future"

While the PC market is growing less rapidly than in the early 90's, 19% is still a huge number. Who can really predict next year's numbers with any accuracy now? It's extreme guess work and predictions in the semiconductor industry have been notoriously wrong.

Intel is certainly trying its best to promote new technologies that will require faster faster chips, thereby convincing everyone to upgrade. Hopefully, though they'll be choosing AMD chips also. We are soon looking at voicemail over the internet in addition to an explosion in web sites with 3D images. So many people bought PCs for the first time in 1996-97 to log onto to the internet for the first time. They are already feeling the need to start replacing them as their hard drives are maxing out with imaging programs and a billion JPEGs. This trend will only accelerate as digital cameras have become truly affordable and video editting on PCs starts to reach the masses. Even if the market does slow, AMD can achieve rapid revenue growth by simply cutting into Intel lead.
