[GST Telecommunications Sells NAMS(R) Product Division to Carrier Management Systems, Inc.]
VANCOUVER, Wash., March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- GST Telecommunications, Inc., a leading Integrated Communications Provider (ICP) in California and the western United States, today announced that it has sold its Abilene, Texas-based NAMS(R) (Network Analysis Management System) product division to Carrier Management Systems, Inc.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The NAMS division was the remaining portion of GST's Action Telecom subsidiary. Last fall, GST sold the long distance and interconnect equipment assets of Action Telecom to NTS Communications.
"The NAMS division, while successful, does not complement our strong broadband assets," stated Tom Malone, acting chief executive officer of GST. "Clearly, eliminating our non-core assets frees additional resources that we will direct for future strategic initiatives."
Paul Bilberry, president and chief executive officer of Carrier Management Systems, stated, "While our tenure at GST was successful, CMSI personnel are looking forward to operating the company, focusing on product growth and service enhancements."
GST originally acquired GST Action Telecom in June 1997. In August 1998 the Company carefully evaluated its assets and business lines to identify those that did not fit within its core business strategies. The sale of the NAMS division completes the divestiture of the original Action Telecom assets and continues GST's efforts to divest itself of non-strategic operations. In February, the Company completed the sale of its mainland dial-up Internet customer base. Last year, GST completed the sale of most of the properties of GST Home, the Company's residential services division, and its assets in Guam. The Company also intends to divest its extensive operations and facilities in Hawaii.
Carrier Management Systems, Inc., a Network Management Software provider headquartered in Abilene, Texas, provides a broad range of integrated network management software for Local Exchange Carriers, Competitive Local Exchange Carriers, Interexchange Carriers, and Competitive Access Providers. With more than 350 installations worldwide, the NAMS(R) product is considered an industry leader. Visit the NAMS Web site at nams.net.
