Hi Pat - Well it's nice to see some smiles around here for a change. It's been quite a grim slide lately. This surge offers some respite at least and to my way of thinking a reminder of the latent potential in both the technology and Amati.

I think that companies like Amati that are concentrating on high speed (and "very high speed") data transmission are addressing the internet, not as it exists today, but instead as they envision it. In a few years web sites will be loaded with video for purposes ranging from the presentation of academic lectures to guided tours of the Ritz Carlton's grounds and facilities on Kapalua Bay. Not to mention movies. Presumably, this is where speeds above 1.5 Mbps will find their adavntage. It's not just pictures they're thinking about, it's motion pictures. This is brought out in Amati's SEC filings from the emphasis on video instead of only simple internet applications.

Several RBOC's have gone with Alcatel which, unless something has changed, is DMT mode. I've been wondering how this will affect GTE's decision when they ultimately deploy. How important do you think ADSL compatability is between separate phone systems?

If the stock has been rising based on the expectation that GTE will announce Amati deployment next week, there could be some big disappointments. But, who knows, maybe those inventive Amati types have something clever up their sleeves.

Hope you and others have good trip. Should be an interesting week. Good luck.............jeff
