Here's a prime example of what happens when after hours instead of closing prices are reported: SEG had a delayed opening this morning. According to a news alert, the closing price was 68 6/8 yet we got the after hours price of 76. First, here's the alert: Tuesday March 14, 9:30 am Eastern Time Alert: NYSE Indication Last 68 6/8 Bid 72 Ask 74 (NYSE:SEG) biz.yahoo.com With 5,200 shares traded, the price of SEG is showing _down_ 2 1/4 at 73 3/4 BUT SEG is actually up 5 points from the close.
