Compaq Delivers Powerful New SANworks Products; Enters Open SAN Storage Resource Management Market
New Management Tools Promote Business Velocity
HOUSTON, March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news), the world's top ranked storage systems supplier and leading SAN provider, took a major step in launching the Open SAN today by announcing new SANworks(TM) software products that provide simplified Open SAN storage resource management. The new SANworks offerings, developed jointly with strategic partner HighGround Systems, the market leader in storage resource management software, mark Compaq's entry into this rapidly growing storage resource management market and significantly enhance Compaq's NonStop(TM) eBusiness solutions.
``Today's successful businesses need simple and consistent ways to manage the ever increasing complexity of their storage resources,' said Mark Lewis, Vice President of Compaq Enterprise Storage Software. ``The SANworks products we are announcing today provide these companies with powerful new tools to dramatically simplify managing storage resources supplied by virtually any storage vendor, including industry-leading Compaq StorageWorks(TM) products. With these new SANworks tools, enterprises can accelerate their business velocity and better respond to emerging e-business opportunities.'
Announced today are SANworks Storage Resource Manager and SANworks Storage Resource Manager for Exchange -- Open SAN management tools that allow storage administrators to detect trends, foresee problems, and balance resources by providing automated reporting for storage capacity, consumption, and availability. Both products ensure data protection, minimize IT spending, and automate storage monitoring.
SANworks Storage Resource Manager is Web-based management software supporting Windows 2000, Windows NT, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, IBM AIX, Compaq Tru64 UNIX, and Red Hat Linux. It is a market-leading reporting solution that provides IT managers with storage data analyses to simplify and streamline storage resource management.
SANworks Storage Resource Manager for Exchange is also Web-based software that provides IT managers with network-wide reports, alerts, planning trends and policies for managing Microsoft Exchange storage capacity, consumption, and availability. Additionally, it provides the centralized reports and policies needed to manage critical, fast-growing Exchange information stores.
``Improving customer service levels and business operational efficiency are two of the key benefits SANworks management products offer to growing enterprises,' said Dennis Grant, President and CEO at HighGround Systems. ``The products Compaq is announcing today, which are based on HighGround's industry-leading Storage Resource Management technology, can significantly increase the availability of mission-critical and business-critical data while allowing IT departments to regain control of storage capacity planning and better respond to changing business needs. Without powerful storage resource management tools, this is difficult to do in today's fast-moving Internet economy.'
Lewis said, ``Compaq unveiled its new SANworks product line for Open SANs on February 7, 2000. Today's announcements fulfill an important milestone in the SANworks technology roadmap, and vault Compaq into a leadership position in one of the most strategic growth areas of the enterprise storage market. As the SAN market leader, it is appropriate that Compaq assumes this leadership position in the Open SAN storage resource management space.'
