I am an inexperienced investor.
I have lots of questions.

I made a small investment in ECNC at $0.16 based mainly on some discussion on FattMatt's thread. I know, I shouldn't invest based on discussion, but frankly, I'm a student and don't always have time to do DD. And, like I said, I'm an inexperienced investor.

When FattMatt began to quietly express reservations I bolted from this stock at approx $1.32. I was also suspicious of the "chart" predictions given by Ronald because I read something about P&Der's doing exactly that. Initially I was pretty pleased with a fairly substantial gain (by my standards) in a short period of time. Over the past few weeks I was kicking myself for selling too soon. Now I'm just glad that I got out in time and I really hate to think about the honest longs who didn't.

I'm not willing to unconditionally call this stock a scam because just as I didn't do DD to get in, I haven't really done any DD on the stuff that you and Pluvia have posted. But the stock has been halted. Even I can see that. And I have some faith that the SEC doesn't make the decision to halt a stock without a fairly compelling reason.

So assuming this stock was a complete scam my questions are:
Why can't even the smallest startup companies be required to file regular financials with the SEC?
Why do respected international wire services distribute information that is complete BS from dubious companies?
Why do "respectable" brokerages participate in the transfer of worthless stock? They won't make any money from commissions if their customers are broke from buying worthless stock at inflated prices.
You guys apparently find these scams all the time...if they are that prevalent and can be exposed with some DD, then why are they out there? Why are there not controls in place to prevent them?
Trying to understand...
