On the Cisco link to LUMM, they also have a photonics technical expert on the LUMM technical advisory board.

I personally hope that LUMM goes it alone. I point out these links only FWIW. I think Cisco is genuinely interested in LUMM's technology, but as you point out they have wide interests. Cisco even invested in Bookham, in the UK, which T Matthews also backs, as does Intel. Bookham is in a business very similar to LUMM.
