News Release March 14, 2000 Trading Symbol: OSI
John Jacobson, President and CEO of Offshore Systems International Ltd. (Offshore) is pleased to announce Offshore's first sale and delivery of its newest ECPINS© electronic navigation chart display technology to the Canadian Navy.
Developed in support of the Canadian Navy's requirement to display electronic chart data from the United States Department of Defense, Offshore has delivered a newly developed prototype of a high performance ECPINS© electronic chart system which supports the United States Department of Defense standards for Digital Nautical Charts (DNC). DNC data is the standard for the US Department of Defense and is being used by other NATO countries, including Canada, as part of their suite of Electronic Chart capabilities.
Jacobson said: "The sale of the prototype to the Canadian Navy marks the beginning of formal validation testing of ECPINS© against the US Department of Defense chart display standards. When the testing by the US Department of Defense is complete, Offshore will be qualified to upgrade installed Canadian Navy systems with the DNC chart display capability the Canadian Navy requires for its operations. What's exciting for Offshore is that we can offer the same Department of Defense validated technology to the US Armed Forces and to other NATO countries. As we announced last September, the Canadian Navy has selected ECPINS© as a standard navigation system throughout the Navy's fleet, and that gives Offshore's technology and products credibility around the world."
Offshore delivered the first electronic chart to the Canadian Navy fifteen years ago, and since then has been providing electronic charts and precision electronic chart display systems for Navy, Coast Guard, passenger ships and other commercial vessels. ECPINS© navigation systems provide real-time position and status display. They interface to virtually all of the available onboard sensors including GPS, radar, speed log, gyrocompass, depth sounder and in some cases even the engine and steering controls. The system is extremely rugged and is known for its precision, performance, and reliability.
Offshore Systems International Ltd. trades on the TSE (Symbol: OSI). Offshore designs, develops and markets the ECPINS© (Electronic Chart Precise Integrated Navigation System) line of electronic chart navigation systems. Worldwide, the technology which combines wireless satellite positioning (GPS and DGPS) with complex computer software, has been hailed as the most significant advance in marine navigation since the advent of radar over 50 years ago.
