JDN - I wish!!! If CPQ can get their cost structure under control and focus a little, they should really light off. They are a bigger and more profitable enterprise company than SUNW, they are, as we just discussed, selling more storage than anyone else... why wouldn't they get the same multiples as SUNW and EMC? Well, because of the ball and chain of the PC business, and because they have had a hard time controlling costs, and because their product roadmap is to congested and the marketing message is not clear.
But EMC and SUNW have shown me that a company with a lot of potential can get the pieces to click - and then triple in a year. There was nothing magical that happened to either SUNW or EMC - just some good execution, a clear message, and the perception that they were winners. Could happen here... |
