It was an awfully quick turnaround from the announcement to the release of Metaframe for UNIX/Solaris. From the sound of the comments in the article, this could open up a huge market for Citrix.

The price didn't seem that much higher than the Windows version. With the subscription, the cost per user (15 user system) is about $400 with additional users added at $200 each. When you consider the cost of an IT department capable of supporting all the users in all the locations vs. being able to supply central support, the cost looks pretty reasonable.

If I read the article correctly, Citrix should now be in a position to serve any part of the distributed computing market (Windows, UNIX, or Solaris based). I hope this gives them a distinct advantage over suppliers who can serve only one sector of the market.

Today's PR from the ASP side (see today's news) is also pretty impressive. It's probably a good bet there was some planning to make the simultaneous announcements.

Thanks for the post Mike.
