OT Murdoch to set up $ 100 mln film, TV studio in city Tuesday, March 14, 2000 Indian Express MUMBAI: International media baron Rupert Murdoch said NewsCorp group is planning to set up a films and television programming studio near Mumbai, with an estimated outlay of $ 100 million. He said that the group was also interested in setting up a state-of-the-art optical fibre telecom carrier network in the city, as part of building a multimedia delivery engine. "Mumbai is surrounded by webs of cable wires and they could be replaced by optical fibre network, to enable them to cater to various Infotech needs from e-education to e-commerce, besides providing immense job opportunities," Murdoch told reporters after a breakfast meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh here. Murdoch said India had a tremendous future in the field of Information Technology and entertainment due to its skilled manpower. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said, considering Mumbai's capacity to provide skilled manpower, it is suited for industrial investments and for setting up projects in various infotech sectors. Many companies had already undertaken resource tapping excercise in the metropolis, he added. PTI report.
