Bargains abound! Ok, if things were shaky in techville, would SLR have reported strong results and a great outlook? For those not familiar, SLR, Solectron is the largest ECM (elec. contract mfg.) or EMS as some like to call them (elec. mfg. svcs.). These guys are kind of the bellwether for the whole electronics or tech sector. If sales were down in any sector (telecom, computers, wireless) it would show up here. Notice that SLR was up 4 1/2 points today even with the rout on the nasdaq.

Personally, I think that what started in Asia (really Japan) will actually benefit U.S. equity markets. Why put money in emerging Asian markets and Japan if the returns are in question. It is evident that U.S. tech companies are showing strong profit growth that will accelerate with the roll out of high-speed internet services and wireless access. On top of that, "Old Economy" companies will spend countless billions on technology upgrades to make themselves leaner and more e-commerce capable.

Yes, some company's stock valuations have gotten out of line with reality, but tech is where you'll find growth in earnings for the foreseeable future.
