Dan, There is a difference between patenting a gene vs a technique of manipulating a gene. I believe the US patent office has awarded a number of gene manipulation patents. Apparently they are not all bogus... OTOH, without possible profit who's take the time to R&D gene therapies? The human genome information itself is freely available on the internet. This needs to be readily available. As far as patents, many universities hold patents in this area. Jim
