NW - APIs are application programming interfaces - the description of how to write a program to access operating system functions. Also applies to program-to-program interfaces like an application written to use a database engine. I don't think that's what they meant... the notion that the ASP community will drive some kind of "Universal APIs" that will make a given OS irrelevant is the holy grail of Java, as well as many other efforts going back to "P-code" in the late 70s, but so far ain't happening. If the author thinks this will be the year for OS-agnostic APIs after 20 years of trying, he is hopelessly out on the lunatic fringe.
