CPQ and IBM are heavily invested in PCI-X (they formed the Future I/O camp to promote it). Bus sharing I/O architectures, in whatever form (PCI-X, FC-AL), are doomed to slow extinction. IB will bridge to them in an industry-wide effort to minimize the discontinuity of a disruptive IB.

The reporter should know that System I/O is now InfiniBand. And yes, the IB switched fabric market is at least two years away, and it won't happen until there is an IB switch lynchpin.
