i don't that this argument is viable. many products of nature are patented....aspirin, penicillin,,,

the companies or people who discovered them received the rights to sell these drugs for a certain period of time...now, whether that's considered a patent or some other terminology,,,that's up for discussion.

now,,back to genes,,,no, patenting just any gene is not really acceptable...but there's got to be a fine line drawn so that the discovery of genes remain profitable....how does one do that for the good of the people but not take away incentives from the companies? i don't know.
