Sunoco selects AspenTech as preferred supplier of modeling, advanced control and supply
chain management solutions

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Aspen Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq:
AZPN), the leading supplier of manufacturing enterprise optimization and extended supply chain
solutions for the process industries, today announced that it has signed a strategic alliance
agreement with Sunoco, Inc. (NYSE: SUN). Sunoco, one of the largest independent petroleum
refiner- marketers in the United States, selected AspenTech based on the anticipated benefits
that will be generated from the integration between AspenTech's modeling, advanced control
and supply chain management software.

Sunoco operates manufacturing facilities in Tulsa, Okla.; Toledo, Ohio; Yabucoa, P.R.; Marcus
Hook, Pa.; Frankford, Pa.; Brandenburg, Ky.; and Philadelphia, Pa., where the company is
headquartered. These five refineries operate at a crude oil processing capacity of 730,000
barrels a day. Sunoco also sells lubricants and petrochemicals worldwide, operates domestic
pipelines and terminals, and manufactures metallurgical-grade coke for use in the steel industry.
