I'm waiting for American Standard to employ LonWorks in my toilet. Put some sensors in there. Send results direct to my doctors office. Maybe they, too, can be used as pipes. Flush means 1, no flush means 0 . . .

Seriously, satellite monitoring of power meters is a lot more plausible than the power line concept. No new technolgy is needed, but I'm not sure if it makes economic sense yet. The transceivers have to be a little more powerful, but that can be gotten around pretty easily.
