Gee, that seems a kind of metaphysical question. Is a lie compounded if it is tape- delayed, and therefore there is a chance to hit the "kill" button? And if it is compounded, does it become two lies? One to those in the studio, and the other to those listening by electronic device. Assuming, of course, that a lie to many is "one lie", but if it is repeated to each, it becomes many. Or should we distinguish between the lie, which is the form, and the act of lying, which is each discrete instance, even when the same lie is involved? Now, make sure that, in trying to make sense of what I just said, you do not tick me off, or I may decide to argue with you over it, and accuse you of lying. Which would be the third lie.....or would it? |
