akom, Yes, Bush did all that for Texas. I watched him work. I have been a Texan since 1942 and have seen them come, and seen them go. I, freely admit, that he could not do it alone. I have never had any dealings with the petro-chemical industry and GW's was not life long nor very long lasting. Remember, in late 70, early 80, the oil business went to pot. He inherited, so to speak, a strong legislature which was loaded with democrats, and a democrat for a Lt. Governor. The only way he could accomplish what he did was by bringing opposing forces together for the common good of the state. He took over from one of the most incompetent administrators I have ever witnessed in office.
To emphasis one point. There is no longer anything such as big oil. Most of the familiar names in oil have the majority of stock holders from other nations than the U.S. The old time "wild catter" millionaires went broke during the bust. Just a guess but, it appears to me that the primary business in Texas now is in the electronic field, and a large segment of health care. Some questionable things may have done by aids without authorization but, unfortunately, that happens in every echelon of politics. I know the entire Bush family to be decent, and honest people. I do not believe America will be disappointed. ~H~ |
